Meta puts its own hiring process at about two to three months end to end.
The onsite itself is a single compact day, which is where the "fast loop" reputation comes from. The scheduling and committee steps around it are not fast.
Each round has a codename: Ninja for coding, Pirate for design, Jedi for behavioral.
The Ninja round is the part most people miss. Two problems in 35 minutes is not the same bar as two problems in 45 minutes.
The pace is the signal. If you spend ten minutes clarifying before coding, you will not finish.
Jedi has gotten more serious. Recent candidates describe it as a calibrated round with a rubric that maps to five behavioral signals, where a weak Jedi can drop your level by itself.
Stories that sound coached lose points fast. Real stories with messy outcomes beat clean stories with no specifics.
Google interview guide

Google's loop is built around the hiring committee. You will be interviewed by 4 to 5 engineers, but none of them decide whether you get an offer. They write detailed notes against four signals and a committee that never met you reads the packet and makes the call.
This changes how you should prep. Your interviewer's vibe in the room does not matter.
The written packet does. Spell things out.
State your complexity even when it is obvious. Walk through your thinking out loud so the interviewer can capture it in writing.
The timeline is slow. From phone screen to offer is typically 6 to 12 weeks.
After you pass HC there is team matching, which adds another couple of weeks. Some HC-passed candidates never find a team and the offer eventually expires, especially during hiring freezes.
Amazon interview guide
16 Leadership Principles drive every round. The Bar Raiser is from outside the hiring team and can veto the hire. Comp is back-loaded with a 5/15/40/40 vesting schedule.

Amazon's loop is built around the 16 Leadership Principles. Walking in without LP stories is the most common reason candidates fail, even strong engineers.
Every interviewer asks two LP questions and writes their notes against the principles. The Bar Raiser specifically probes them at depth.
The 16 LPs in 2026 are: Customer Obsession, Ownership, Invent and Simplify, Are Right A Lot, Learn and Be Curious, Hire and Develop the Best, Insist on the Highest Standards, and Think Big.
The rest are: Bias for Action, Frugality, Earn Trust, Dive Deep, Have Backbone Disagree and Commit, Deliver Results, Strive to be Earth's Best Employer, and Success and Scale Bring Broad Responsibility.
The last two were added in 2021. Most interviewers focus on the original 14, but the Bar Raiser sometimes probes the newer two, especially at SDE3 and above.
Comp is unusual. The RSU schedule is 5 percent in Year 1, 15 percent in Year 2, 40 percent in Year 3, 40 percent in Year 4.
Year 1 and Year 2 sign-on bonuses make up the difference. If you leave before Year 3, you lose most of the equity.
The structure pushes people to stay 4 years.
Apple interview guide
Team-driven interviews, no central process. Domain expertise weighted heavily. Privacy is a design constraint built in, not added at the end.

Apple loops are team-driven. There is no single "Apple interview".
A loop for the Camera team looks nothing like a loop for Services. What stays consistent is that domain depth matters more than at Meta or Google.
They want someone who can ship inside a specific area, not a generalist who can move teams.
Expect 6 to 8 onsite rounds, often a full day. Coding, system design, domain depth, team fit. Cross-team transfers are harder than at other big tech, so the team you join matters more.
Apple interviewers give almost no hints or feedback during interviews. Narrate your thinking proactively, the entire time.
They will not prompt you to do this. Candidates who go silent get marked down.
Privacy is the Apple-specific design constraint. Treat it as part of the architecture from the start.
Define your data access model. Explain how your system enforces access boundaries.

Senior is the entry bar (no junior or mid-level); Staff and Principal exist above it. The Keeper Test is the real evaluation behind every round. Pays top of market in cash, with options as a choice not a default.

Netflix does not hire juniors. The floor is Senior, and the Culture Memo is the rubric.
Read it before applying. The original Culture Deck has been updated several times.
The current version (2024 onward) emphasizes Judgment, Selflessness, Courage, Communication, Curiosity, Inclusion, Integrity, and the "Dream Team" framing.
The Keeper Test is the real evaluation criterion. Managers ask of every report: "if X wanted to leave, would I fight to keep them?" If the answer is no, Netflix parts ways with generous severance. The hiring loop is built around finding people who would pass the Keeper Test from day one.
Pay is top of market and unusual. There is no default RSU grant.
Each year you pick how much of your compensation comes as stock options. Most engineers take all cash because the option grants are small and Netflix's stock has limited upside compared to private equity at frontier companies.
The loop is short and deep. 4 to 6 rounds, 45 to 60 minutes each.
Decision is fast: 3 to 7 days after the final round, often within 48 hours. System design carries more weight than at any other big tech.
Microsoft interview guide

Microsoft hires more software engineers than Meta, Google, and Netflix combined. The headcount is enormous and the loop reflects that: different orgs run different shapes. Azure infra is closer to Google in flavor, M365 is more product-focused, Gaming has its own domain bar.
The common thread is "As Appropriate" questions. Interviewers want you to ask what you do not know, narrow the problem, and only then code. Jumping into code without clarifying is a flag specific to Microsoft.
The level number system is unusual. The recruiter will say "Senior, L63 or L64" on the offer.
L63 is the bottom of Senior, L64 is the top. Same range applies to other levels: SDE II is 61-62, Principal is 65-66.
You can get an offer for L64 (high Senior) when you applied for Principal.
The AA round is unique. Some loops include it as a final 45 to 60 minute conversation with the hiring manager or a senior engineer.
Getting AA is a positive signal. It is invited when the earlier rounds went well.
Stripe interview guide
Long, detailed loop. The Bug Squash and Integration rounds are the parts most candidates struggle with. They reward skills LeetCode does not build.

Stripe's loop is built around two rounds that almost no other company has: the Bug Squash and the Integration round. Both reward engineering judgment over algorithm puzzles.
The Bug Squash drops you into a real or real-feeling codebase with a failing test. The codebase has more than you need to read, and part of the evaluation is whether you can navigate an unfamiliar tree without getting lost.
Narrate the hypothesis tree explicitly. Say what you believe is broken, what evidence would confirm or refute it, and what you are going to check next.
Use the debugger. Interviewers check that you used it.
The Integration Round gives you a real API and asks you to build something that works with it.
The evaluation is whether you approach the API the way Stripe's customers approach Stripe's APIs: reading docs carefully, handling errors before the happy path, noticing where the interface creates unnecessary work.
Bug Squash and Integration are where most candidates struggle. They reward skills LeetCode alone does not build.
Practice building small integrations with vanilla HTTP libraries, no frameworks. Know how to parse and compare JSON programmatically.
Databricks interview guide
Strong systems bar with a data platform flavor. Implementation-heavy coding, distributed systems depth, and recurring themes around Spark, Delta Lake, and pipeline failure handling.

Databricks hires hard on systems depth. If your resume claims distributed systems experience, they will go deep.
If it claims Spark experience, expect Spark questions. Do not put things on your resume you cannot defend.
Coding rounds are implementation-heavy. Less LeetCode puzzle, more "implement this in 60 minutes" with code quality probed at the same time as correctness. Tests, naming, error handling all factor in.
System design probes recurring data platform themes: Spark-style distributed computing, ingestion and analytics pipelines, Delta Lake and lakehouse concepts, storage-versus-compute trade-offs, crash safety, consistency, pipeline failure handling.
If you have only practiced Twitter and Uber style designs, you are underprepared.
Behavioral probes ownership and how you move complex work forward. Databricks values transparency, customer focus, and clear communication under pressure. Less rubric-driven than Amazon, more conversational.
OpenAI interview guide

The take-home is often a real exercise that takes four to six hours. Treat it seriously, they read the code carefully and discuss it with you in the next round.
Coding rounds are practical. Build a small library, parse a real format, integrate with a Claude-style API. Less LeetCode trick, more engineering judgement.
Behavioral matters more than at most companies. They probe for careful thinking, safety-mindedness, and willingness to slow down when slowing down is the right call. Move-fast-and-break-things will hurt your packet.

NVIDIA's interview process reflects the company. They build the chips that run AI, so engineers across the company think about performance at the hardware level. Even pure software roles touch GPUs one way or another.
The signature element of the loop is the domain round, and it varies by team. For CUDA compiler or kernel teams, expect deep questions on memory hierarchy, warp-level primitives, occupancy, and parallel algorithms.
For applied ML infrastructure, the focus shifts to training and inference systems. For networking (former Mellanox), it leans on RDMA, InfiniBand, and high-speed transport.
C++ is the dominant language across systems teams. Coding rounds typically allow your language of choice but candidates who can think in C++ when needed have an edge.
The loop is long. Multiple onsite rounds across weeks.
Six plus weeks end to end is normal. NVIDIA does not have the standardized loop structure of Google or Amazon; the team you apply to determines a lot of what your interview looks like.

xAI's interview process is reported to be among the fastest at any frontier AI lab, though the company publishes no timeline, so treat the pace as a tendency rather than a schedule. It is engineer-led, fast-moving, and built around proof of exceptional technical work.
The first distinctive element is the application itself. You submit a "statement of exceptional work" along with your resume. This is graded as part of screening; recruiters report that a strong statement substantially raises your odds of getting to phone screen.
The second distinctive element is the Project Deep-Dive round. Most companies do not do this.
You present a real technical project from your past to a panel of engineers. They probe what you decided, why, what the alternatives were, and what you would do differently.
If you have a strong technical project, this is where it shows.
Coding rounds are practical. Less LeetCode trick than OpenAI, more "build this small system in 60 minutes with real code".
A System Design round (60 minutes) covers distributed systems at scale, which matters because xAI runs some of the world's largest GPU training clusters and is building infrastructure across products (X integration, Grok, and planned products like X Money).
Behavioral is light. A final 30 to 45 minute conversation focused on culture and collaboration.
xAI explicitly compares its culture to SpaceX: high accountability, first-principles thinking, zero tolerance for low-ownership behavior. Generic "tell me about a time" answers fail.

Cloudflare runs a global edge network spanning 300+ cities. That scale shows up in the interview process. Most candidates report the loop emphasizes practical engineering judgment, distributed systems knowledge, and networking depth more than algorithmic puzzles.
The first distinctive element is when the Hiring Manager screen happens. Most companies put a hiring manager conversation at the end of the loop after the technical bar is cleared.
Cloudflare often puts it after the recruiter screen but before the deep technical rounds. The hiring manager is checking team fit and motivation early.
If you do not make it through this round, the rest of the loop does not happen.
The Code Pair round is the second distinctive element. You sometimes complete a take-home assignment before the onsite, and one of the onsite rounds is a paired review and extension of that take-home with an interviewer.
They watch how you read your own code, explain your decisions, and make changes under discussion.
Networking depth gets probed throughout. Even on generalist product loops, expect questions on how the internet works: TCP congestion control basics, what happens during a TLS handshake, how DNS resolution works, how HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 differ.
Generic systems engineers can pass without deep networking, but candidates with real knowledge stand out.
Culture is engineering-driven. Two of Cloudflare's stated values are Curious and Transparent. The behavioral round often probes for genuine technical curiosity (what are you reading, what was the last paper that surprised you, what side projects) more than for rehearsed ownership stories.
